Victor Vescovo
United States
American explorer Victor Vescovo piloted his submersible "Limiting Factor" to the deepest point of the Mariana Trench -- Challenger Deep, at 10,928 meters -- on April 28, 2019. This surpassed the 1960 record of 10,916 meters set by Don Walsh and Jacques Piccard in the bathyscaphe Trieste. Water pressure at that depth is roughly 1,100 times that at the surface. Remarkably, living organisms were found at the bottom. Vescovo is also the first person to reach the deepest point in all five oceans.
